The domain transfer process varies depending on whether the buyer and seller use the same registrar or different registrars. Below is a clear breakdown of both scenarios:


Same Registrar Transfer - When both seller and buyer use a same registrar like GoDaddy.

◆ Fast & Simple – No authorization code or waiting period required.
◆ Steps:
- Seller initiates a "push" from their account to the buyer's email/account.
- Buyer accepts the transfer (usually via email or dashboard).
- Domain moves instantly (or within hours).


Cross-Registrar Transfer - When seller uses registrar like GoDaddy while buyer uses a different registrar like NameCheap.
◆ Time to complete: 5-7 days typically
◆ Standard ICANN Process – Requires authorization code and a 5-day security wait.
